Inyo National Forest
USA Holiday Destinations
Inside the Inyo National Forest you will find landscapes of breathtaking beauty, and if you seek solitude, you will have no trouble finding it here. Every canyon is unique, every trail displays a different character and every day brings with it a new adventure. The warmer weather sees people enjoy a number of outdoor activities including fishing, camping, picnicking, backpacking, horse riding, rock climbing and mountaineering.
Inyo National Forest is located predominantly in eastern central California and overlaps the border with Nevada. It starts on the eastern side of RV rental friendly Yosemite National Park and stretches south to the popular camper rental destination Sequoia National Park. In the past it has been overlooked as a holiday destination in favor of the more widely known neighboring national parks of Death Valley and Yosemite. However in recent times people have discovered that Inyo National Forest is also a fantastic place to stay and have a fun holiday adventure.
During the summer months camping is by far the biggest draw card. The peak camping season runs from the end of April until the end of October each year. There are numerous campgrounds that accommodate RV rentals and camper hire vehicles which also provide easy access to the recreational hotspots inside the forest. Many campgrounds operate on a first come first served basis however selected campgrounds do accept reservations. As with many of the national parks the campgrounds have a maximum stay limit of 14 days but this can vary.
Hiking is extremely popular as there are many hiking trails over a range of distances. Adventurous types enjoy the thrill of hiking through backcountry and wilderness areas, but this is not for the faint hearted. If you have ever wanted to learn how to camp in the wilderness there are several businesses operating under special permits who will teach you everything you need to know, from basic equipment, to food preparation and storage, to strategies for surviving in the wilderness. If you are holidaying in one of our RV rentals why bother with back country camping when you have every comfort of home right at your finger tips?
If pack riding sounds like your idea of fun, a number of local businesses offer a variety of pack rides catering to all skill levels. If you only have limited time take a half day or full day ride and return to the comfort of your RV rental at night. If you have more time, take a multi-day pack ride for the full experience. Beginners can choose to take the fully catered pack ride, which sees you ride in on horseback to a pre-prepared camp, then sit back and let someone else cater for your every need. For the more advanced adventurer there are several options which will deliver you to your campsite and return to transport you back on an agreed date.
Keen fishermen come in large numbers to take advantage of the 400 lakes and over 100 miles of streams within the forest borders. The water ways are teeming with a variety of fish species, some businesses even deliberately re-stock these bodies of water to ensure that visitors are rewarded for their efforts. Nothing quite compares to the satisfaction and enjoyment gained from catching, preparing and cooking a fish you caught off your own fishing line. Most of our RV rentals come with a fully equipped kitchen with hot and cold running water which means you can enjoy all the comforts and convenience of a home style meal.
