Boating & Fishing
Fishermen flock to Lake Mead as it can boast some of the most prized fishing spots in the country. Fishermen also appreciate the fact that the fishing season lasts all year along and there are no species restrictions. What better reason do you need to grab an RV rental and pack your fishing gear?
Lake Mead is renowned for the variety of the fish to be found there, however its the striped bass which really gets rave reviews. Records indicate some catches weigh in at 50 pounds and more. Nearby Lake Mohave is also stocked with rainbow trout which is also another favourite with anglers. Other popular catches in the area include largemouth bass, channel catfish, and black crappie.
RV rental holiday makers will be happy to learn that the freezer compartment of their vehicle can be used to store any fish caught. The cooking facilities in our RV rentals will then help you transform your fish into a delicious meal at the end of the day. What better way to relax after a hard day of fishing?
Swimming
The water in the lake is cyrstal clear and ideal for swimming. In fact swimming is a very popular past time at the lake. The best time of the year to go swimming is spring, summer and fall. Temperatures during these times average 78 degrees Fahrenheit. While swimming is permitted anywhere on the lake, the authorities have designated some beach areas specially as swimming beaches. You can recognise these beachs as they have been marked with buoys which are design to prevent boats from entering. Bathers are asked to take care as there are no lifeguards on duty.
Scenic Drives
With several different routes on offer, Lake Mead’s Scenic Drives reveal startlingly beautiful desert scenery. Towering mountain peaks, sprawling desert plains peppered with cactuses and creosote bush all combine to provide a constant scenic backdrop to an RV rental holiday.
The most popular scenic drives are the ones which wind their way along the edge of Lake Mead. These roads provide panoramic views of the lake which contrast nicely against the backdrop of the striking colors of the desert mountains.
There are many scenic drives to choose from. Most roads are accessible in an RV rental vehicle. The road to Pearce Ferry for example, winds its way through extremely rare Joshua-tree forests. Where possible you are advised to steer clear of unpaved backcountry roads. Conditions of hire stipulate that you are to drive only on paved roads. This is because the condition of these unpaved roads can vary widely.
